Description, therapeutic skills, etc. :

As a licensed clinical psychologist I have met with a variety of people struggling with various concerns. I will work collaboratively with you to identify and better understand the challenges you are facing, as well as the strengths and supports you possess to address these challenges. I have seen firsthand how this exploration can lead to desired changes in people's lives.

The first 1-2 sessions will usually involve a semi-structured "intake," which will give you a chance to provide me with a holistic perspective of who you are and what you are hoping to gain from therapy, even if you are not yet sure what that is. It will also give you a chance to get to know me, ask any questions you have, settle into the process, and explain "what's going on" in your own terms. At the end of the intake I will provide you with any recommendations I might have for further treatment.

Specializations (i.e., ADHD, substance use):

My areas of expertise include anxiety/panic, depression, seasonal affective mood, recovery from trauma, substance abuse, grief and loss, relationship concerns, family issues, identity and sexual orientation issues, and self-esteem development.

Populations/Modalities (i.e., individual, couple):

I have worked with people from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. I have particularly extensive experience working with college/graduate students, artists, the LGBTQ population, and people with disabilities. I am also quite familiar with people in the healthcare, tech, and business worlds. Much of my professional background involved working with international populations, including people from dozens of countries.

I specialize in existential/humanistic and psychodynamic psychotherapy, while integrating cognitive-behavioral techniques when appropriate. At times, meditative techniques such as mindfulness, visualization, and progressive muscle relaxation can be used to improve therapeutic results. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment that cultivates a trusting relationship, and, in turn, a space for creative self-exploration and the potential for change.
